The Dog Stars

Check out my full review @ https://www.manuelsbento.com/the-dog-stars-2026-ridley-scotts-gorgeous-grief-stricken-post-apocalypse-never-quite-takes-flight/ Rating: C+ THE DOG STARS is a gorgeous, contemplative post-apocalyptic thriller that never fully earns its two-hour runtime. Ridley Scott finds real tenderness in a story about grief, isolation, and the fragile work of learning to hope again, and the ensemble cast sells that journey beautifully. But the screenplay leans too hard on familiar genre beats and repetitive detours, leaving even its most striking visuals feeling more decorative than purposeful. A film that looks and sounds wonderful, but rarely says anything new.

The Dog Stars

What a great movie!! One of those worth seeing in the theater—and one that leaves you hoping for a sequel! Great story, great actors, great direction! No racial quotas, no trendy interracial couples, and no gender issues shoved down our throats—in short, no “woke” garbage! A breath of fresh air. I want more of this. I highly recommend it! I’m looking forward to a sequel!

The Dog Stars

Life in a post-apocalyptic world is a common theme in movies (especially, if you believe what’s published in the media, the increasing prospect that such an outcome may be coming closer to a reality than any of us might like). In many cases, these films follow the experiences of a resourceful, innovative protagonist who quietly but skillfully struggles to survive, successfully managing to fend off foes while cerebrally wrestling with feelings about what’s been lost. That scenario is apparent once again in this latest release from legendary director Ridley Scott. Unfortunately, however, this is not one of the filmmaker’s better efforts, a blatantly uneven production that gets things right in some regards but woefully misses the mark in others. Based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Peter Heller, the film follows the life of a mechanic and antique Cessna pilot, Hig (Jacob Elordi), who...

Obsession

Obsession is an supernatural phychological horror film directed by Curry Barker, a youtuber turned filmmaker and what a crazy film he had made on a budget 1 million dollars. The concept itself is so interesting but terrifying at the same time that will make you think that why and how would Curry had come with such an idea. The film is so layered and deep in it's narrative that after watching the film every time you think about it, you will come across a new perspective and shade of every character. Technically the film is solid, may it be the sound design or the costumes or the prosthetics work or the set design which despite the minimal budget didn't look cheap. Performances of both the lead actors Michael Johnston & Inde Navarrette were exceptional, they nailed their roles. Michael does a great job as an observer, a guy who is terrified with what is going on around him, a guy trying to...

Obsession

Full Review: aisleseatreviews.com "Waking up in the middle of the night with the eerie sense that you’re being watched, only to look down and see your kid standing pitch-black next to your bed staring at you. That is the exact level of visceral dread this movie locks you into." Obsession is one of those rare, deeply unsettling horror films that doesn't just want to jump-scare you—it actively wants to get under your skin and suffocate you. You get about 15 minutes of relative safety at the start, but the exact second that One Wish Willow snaps, the air is completely sucked out of the room. You could literally hear a collective wave of tension ripple through the theater. Inde Navarrette is phenomenal. Her ability to instantly pivot from an obsessed, psychotic girlfriend back to a normal, completely terrified Nikki who realizes she's trapped, and then snap right back into the madness is...

Obsession

"Bear" (Michael Johnston) has a crush on his pal "Nikki" (Inde Navarrette) but it's a love that dare not speak it's name. He hasn't the courage to even ask her out! When she decides that she has had enough of their two-horse town and wants to move away, he decides to buy her a gift and alights on a "make a wish" toy. Make your wish and it will come true as surely as if it were rubbed out on that lamp of "Aladdin". Well he gives her a lift home, but their parting is a bit wobbly and so in a fit of pique he snaps the gift and makes his wish after she has gone. What he doesn't expect is that it will come true, but that's just the start as the consequences of his hastily considered prayer begin to take over just about everyone's lives - and not necessarily for the better, or the safer, either. Things don't improve much for him when he discovers that his options to reverse his heart's desire...

Obsession

Curry Barker has crafted something mostly special for an almost non-existent budget. The story is compelling, the acting is solid, and Obsession feels like a breath of fresh air in comparison to similar horror films. However, it’s disappointing that one shrill character trait nearly ruins the entire film. It’s because of this that Obsession will have to settle for being a well-made, well-written film dominated by one aggressively irritating character, which will hinder future rewatches much like Frank Darabont’s The Mist. https://bit.ly/1WishWillO

This certainly isn't bad, but that doesn't make it good. It is perfectly serviceable and it does what it sets out to do, but there are no bells and whistles here. The characters are unlikable enough so that you don't feel bad when they get murdered. The antagonist is spooky, but the internal rules of the tension is too vague, and that means that it's difficult to build true horror from it. There are some interesting takes here, but it isn't enough to make it into a good movie. I don't think you'll have a bad time, but don't expect to be blown away by this.

Clayface

Man, this had so much potential. This just flat out wasn’t good. It was entertaining because it’s an IP we haven’t seen before but the writing was bad, the acting wasn’t great, there was zero chemistry between the two love interests. The quick change from character to character was an interesting choice when it seemed the logic of the movie said something else. This just needed more time to bake. It could’ve been actually scary and earned the label of “horror” but it only gained that label because of the body gore which was crazy for this film. This could’ve been so much better.

Clayface

The Dark Knight has many tragic villains, and Clayface is one I can't help but feel bad for. This movie is horrifying, heartbreaking and completely original. Tom Rhys-Harries brings the character to life with a tragic and memorable performance. The body horror effects were grotesque and made my skin crawl. This movie has opened the door for a new era of DC films and I'm excited if a few of them end up being horror.

Clayface

Check out my full review @ https://movieswetextedabout.com/clayface-movie-review-tom-rhys-harries-leads-a-gruesome-satisfying-dcu-villain-story/ Rating: B CLAYFACE is a grotesque, committed body horror villain origin story that’s refreshingly standalone. Tom Rhys Harries gives a pretty great lead performance, subtle for most of it and menacing when it counts. Naomi Ackie is good alongside him. The practical effects and prosthetics are remarkable, the disco set piece is a blast, and the airplane bathroom scene had me looking away. I liked that it lets Matt be a villain and ties his career so bluntly to his face. Away from him, though, the writing gets thin. The supporting characters and the mobsters are weak, the second act runs in circles, the editing cuts corners on the transformations, and Gotham looks like any other city. Still, I quite liked it. My DCU streak lives on!

I originally thought this was a straight horror film, so I was surprised to find out it was more of a drama, but I LOVED the visual effects!

The Fix

This is gritty and convoluted just like a heist movie should be. Zachary doesn't do a very good job in it, and Liam is in it far too little. The hang-up of the group trying to atone for past mistakes becomes almost like exposition. It doesn't quite land, and therefore the ending doesn't feel very earned. I still enjoyed the movie, but it isn't a particularly good version of a heist like this.

The Green Mile

The Green Mile, directed by Frank Darabont and based on a Stephen King story, revisits prison life with a spiritual edge. Tom Hanks is steady, while Michael Clarke Duncan brings real heart. Set almost entirely on Death Row, its slow pace mirrors the routine and inevitability of execution. The soft lighting and measured camerawork add a quiet melancholy. At over three hours, it’s powerful but indulgent—moving at times, but it does test your patience.

The Green Mile

Great acting by everyone involved, but the story is just not my cup of tea. If you like fake miracles (no shortage of people that do) and fantasy storylines, like prison guards that are humane and empathic (on death row nonetheless), then you might enjoy this more. I, however, will stick to more realistic fantasy, like mages fighting orcs and that sort of thing, and leave this in the trash pile of conservative media.

The Green Mile

"Edgecomb" (Tom Hanks) is in charge of the prison officers who tend to the inmates on death row. He's a decent man who, with the help of his partner "Howell" (David Morse) tries to carry out his task as humanely as possible. Their team also numbers the truly odious "Percy" (Doug Hutchinson). He's an incompetent coward, but he also happens to be the nephew of the state governor, so tends to get away with his obnoxiousness towards the prisoners. That nasty behaviour becomes more pronounced when the giant "Coffey" (Michael Clarke Duncan) arrives. Also newly arrived is a small mouse which befriends, much to the chagrin of "Percy", a fellow inmate (Harry Dean Stanton) and oddly enough it seems to help keep the peace as people come and go. Things take quite an intriguing turn when some physical contact between their gentle giant and "Edgecomb" seems to cure his liver complaint. As the officer...

The Green Mile

A Masterpiece of Cinematic Art -- Captivating and Reverent The head Death Row guard at a Tennessee prison during the Depression (Tom Hanks) observes a new inmate, a black man named John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), who is condemned to death for the rape and murder of two little girls. He and his fellow guards become intrigued by the gentle giant and conclude that there's no way he could be guilty of the crime. Who, then, is guilty? And will the guilty party get away with it. "The Green Mile" expertly mixes film genres: It's part prison flick, part supernatural mystery and part drama. It was adapted from Stephen King's novel by director/writer Frank Darabont and released in 1999. If you're not an admirer of Stephen King books/films (I'm not), DON'T let that deter you from viewing this beautiful and spiritually-profound film; it's by no means a typical horror story, although it does...

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

An outstanding end to the trilogy. I expected a lot from 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' so I am delighted to see it produce on so many levels. I, funnily enough, wouldn't actually say it's necessarily the most perfect execution - what with the plot coincidences and extreme character armour. But that doesn't matter one jot whatsoever, as the story wraps up in arguably the best way - at least to watch - possible. It has so much heart and feeling to it. The story involving the characters of Elijah Wood, Sean Astin and Andy Serkis remained the most interesting to me, I was very satisfied with how it concluded in regards to them. I also enjoyed the bits we got of Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen & Co. All that added to the beautiful look and creation of the film, with the world coming alive splendidly. If I were to nit-pick further, I would say the run time is slightly too...

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Great finale to a great trilogy. The action and battle sequences were amazing and even though I've seen this a few times over the years, still thrilling to the end. I didn't even mind the multiple endings as I had in the past, nice each character got their due. 4.75/5

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Too much CGI, redundancy, clichés and drawn out “looks of love” for my tastes. RELEASED 2003 and directed by Peter Jackson, “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” adapts the third part of JRR Tolkien’s popular fantasy trilogy about adventures on Middle-Earth: Frodo (Elijah Wood), Sam (Sean Astin) and Gollum (Andy Serkis) continue to try to make their way to Mount Doom to destroy the One Ring. Meanwhile Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas the Elf (Orlando Bloom), Gimli the Dwarf (John Rhys-Davies), Gandalf the wizard (Ian McKellen), King Theoden (Bernard Hill) and Faramir (David Wenham) join forces to fight Sauron's army at the stone city of Minas Tirith and, later, draw the forces of Modor out as a distraction for Frodo to accomplish his goal. Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan are on hand as Hobbits Pippin and Merry. While I’m a casual fantasy/adventure fan and have read...
