Interstellar

Another grandiloquent movie from Christoper Nolan. The cast is good, and McConaughey performs a role made for himself. The photography is very nice but the movie commits all the same mistakes than previous Nolan's movies. I think mistakes but it may be that they are the points Nolan fans enjoy the most ... * The story makes you believe it is a realy deeply thought plot but, in the end, it has so basic mistakes and stupidities that make it nonsensical. * There is a general ambience of every moment being epic; deep, solemn and smart dialogues but, at some point our highly trained engineer and pilot behaves really stupidly. * To keep the mentioned constant feeling of being in an epic moment, Nolan uses a thumping and insistent soundtrack. As it is not a moment, but a 3h movie, it is really tiresome. All in all, the movie is OK but you can only think this is a great movie if you are a...

Interstellar

People seem to think that if you enjoy a Christopher Nolan movie, you are a fanboy and the film couldn't really be that good. That is not true. He has never made a bad movie, Insomnia is probably his worst and it is still an excellent movie. Interstellar is up there in his top 3, with The Dark Knight being number 1 and Inception in number 2. I don't think he will ever make a better movie than The Dark Knight, it is without a doubt a masterpiece of cinema in my opinion. It can be enjoyed on so many levels. I remember seeing Interstellar in the movie theater and being on the edge of my seat the whole time. It was breathtaking but the end left me confused so i walked out disappointed. Since then i have watched it many times but it only took a second viewing to realize what a great ending it is and here is why. How many people discuss the end, was the wormhole open or closed for him to...

Interstellar

Well, one off from two of this year's most expected movies alongside 'The Battle of Five Armies'. Like all the Chris Nolan fans, I was equally excited to see the movie on the opening day opening show. But I slightly disappointed that it was not a digital 3D film. I agree, this science-fiction was more dramatized than usual space travel stories does with an adventure-thriller. Almost a 3 hour long stretch movie did not waste much time to take us to the core of the story. Get prepared for this extremely rare voyage into the space with a logical explanation for everything you see on the screen. Well done research for the most matured and intelligent writing. All the credit must go to Nolan brothers. A good sign from Jonathan Nolan, who can make big in the entertainment industry in a future like his brother. As we know many had liked 'Inception', to me that was a simple multi-layered action...

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

8/10: the defining Bollywood romance that established the grammar an entire industry still speaks, anchored by Khan and Kajol's legendary chemistry and elevated by songs that became cultural touchstones. Aditya Chopra's directorial debut unfolds as something extraordinary; the template for an entire generation of Bollywood romance, a film that codified a visual and emotional language now so ubiquitous it's easy to forget someone had to invent it first. Three decades on, *Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge* (known universally by its initialism, DDLJ) has aged in the way all defining works do; the story beats feel familiar now precisely because this film established them, with the musical numbers and art direction lavish in a mode that became industry standard. What felt revolutionary in 1995, the notion that lovers might honor family tradition rather than simply elope, and that tradition and...

Beware Boiúna

This is a worthy spiritual successor to Anaconda, which is now coming up on 30 years old. This movie does have all of the elements of Anaconda updated for a modern audience and with a lovely snake to boot. It doesn't lean into cliché comedy, but instead focuses on the horror of actually running into a Titanboa or similarly sized reptile in an area where there is no help to be had. It's a great movie, it's well acted and well produced. The effects are on point and they aren't shy of showing their marvelous snake either. I think you'll enjoy this

Beware Boiúna

*Beware Boiúna* is very much about getting this group of people into the rainforest for a vague reason and then dropping its story points purely for a bloody snake massacre. It is chock-full of jerky camera movements jittering to an obnoxiously loud sound mix. Repetitive loud noises in a film basically equate to elongated jump scares. *Beware Boiúna* isn't stingy when it comes to butchering people in countless slimy and slithery ways, but it's all something that could have been avoided if they didn't make terrible decisions. https://bit.ly/Bouina

Coyote vs. Acme

You won’t often see me review animated films. That’s because I remember what cartoons were like when I was growing up as a Baby Boomer, and I loved them (especially Looney Tunes). In fact, in my view, most of today’s headache-inducing animation is overly manic and overly silly, releases that pale in comparison to those classic old school offerings. For those who agree with me, however, there’s a new release out there that serves as a fitting homage to those works of days gone by that pays a fitting tribute to them while simultaneously incorporating fresh, contemporary material that does justice to its source material, “Coyote vs. Acme.” Based on the long-running comical desert conflict between the Road Runner and the bird’s perpetually unsuccessful nemesis, Wile E. Coyote, this feature-length tale brilliantly fuses animation and live action (in the same vein as “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”...

Coyote vs. Acme

I read an article inspired by this movie. It said top 10 anti-capitalist films like this movie. It included They Live. This movie is about a comically evil corporation headed by my favourite John Cena. John Cena is cool. Will Forte is cool. Jubilee from X-Men Apocalypse is cool. Who Framed Roger Rabbit is cool. This movie is pretty neat. It's not anti-capitalist. It should not be inspiring a list that includes They Live. It could inspire a list that is movies that do the Who Framed Roger Rabbit effects well. #1. Who Framed Roger Rabbit #2. Space Jam #3. Cool World #4. Coyote vs. Acme It's fine. A liiiittle too long and well a way too USA punishes corporations that treat the public poorly.

Coyote vs. Acme

Come to think of it, I'm surprised that in the super-litigious US of A it took almost a century for anyone to cotton that "ACME" products were rubbish! Well now "Wile E. Coyote" has had his fill of things blowing up in his face and decided to employ lawyer "Avery" (Will Forte) to take on the mighty "Foghorn Leghorn" and his legal eagle "Buddy" (John Cena) in a courtroom battle. The coyote can't speak; they can't catch the "Road Runner" to act as a witness to his calamities and the thrust of their defence seems to fall on the deaf ears of an "Elmer Fudd" who doesn't seem to quite know which side his bread ought to be buttered on - or maybe he does? Can they win? I actually rather enjoyed the "Leghorn" character most of all as he rather counter-intuitively suggested that their gadgets and gizmos were being tested on the cartoon characters - rather than real people - because, well you can't...

It may not look the way classic animation fans want it to look. Still, *Coyote vs. ACME* is worthwhile for its ingenuity in both its homage to old cartoons and its clever storytelling, and seeing where your favorite *Looney Tunes* character fits into this wacky universe. https://bit.ly/WileEAcme

War of the Worlds

I once watched Jake Gyllenhalle talk on the phone for 1.5 hours and I hated it. I watch Ice Cube squint at a screen and chat with friends and family for 1.5 hours and I love it. Data! They're coming for data. They're going to eat all our data! Why not just copy the data? Why not just set up a separate server farm where they just make an infinite RickRoll for the aliens. There is technically unlimited data if you copy that data forever and if the aliens eat the data, does that mean there's space for more data on that hdd? If you could write the read spead of the aliens, you could just give them unlimited data off of some small device. That could keep them eating for a while and while they're distracted, you set up a nuclear bomb inside them that is on a timer and they could prevent it from going nuclear but doing so will cause them to sacrifice themselves for the greater good. Anyway. I...

War of the Worlds

'War of the Worlds'... boy oh boy. I've been out of the film loop recently, but word of this disaster even reached me. I had to check it out for myself to get it watched before I got spoiled. Sometimes the internet piles in to jointly overhate a movie... this is not one of those times. What a mess, there are sadly no redeeming qualities to it. First and foremost, it takes itself way too seriously. There are (I think) a few jokes scattered in there, though they last for literal seconds - everything else is played straight. It had a better chance of working as a comedy, albeit barely. The initial novelty of the "screenlife" (never knew that was a thing until now) set-up is kinda interesting, though it very quickly wears off completely. It ends up getting annoying, especially the constant calling noises - almost gave me a headache. It'd work as a short, not for 90mins! The computer stuff...

War of the Worlds

Its amazing what you accomplish with a creative script, even on a limited budget. "War of the Worlds" isn't going to win any awards but its nonetheless still quite entertaining. The notion of the whole alien invasion playing out from the control room of a US NSA surveillance agent, is novel, as is the manner in which everything is nicely brought together. The acting is decent too, so no complaints there, either. Perhaps the only limited downside is the special effects, which are only passable. That said, they still function well enough, to make the whole thing enjoyable. In summary, a simple but watchable sci fi experience. A nice distraction for a wet weekend.

Matchbox the Movie

I can’t quite understand why the whole thing is called ‘Matchbox – The Movie’. The only connection is that a few children are occasionally seen holding a Matchbox car. However, although the protagonists are supposed to be in their early to mid-30s, the actors playing them are easily 15 years older. That doesn’t come across as very credible. As products are repeatedly highlighted in the film, it seems to be a sort of infomercial. I’m feeling a slight urge to order a Leatherman afterwards... All in all, though, it’s a solid action comedy. Just the sort of film you’d expect from John Cena. Not a standout, but an entertaining watch without much depth.

Matchbox the Movie

Check out my full review @ https://movieswetextedabout.com/matchbox-the-movie-movie-review-john-cena-leads-a-fun-practical-ride-that-never-leaves-its-lane/ Rating: B- MATCHBOX THE MOVIE is exactly the film I expected: a formulaic, predictable spy comedy that never tries to be more than what it truly is. The practical, on-location action gives it a real edge over most of its genre, as Sam Hargrave's choreography and kinetic camera work remain as solid as ever. John Cena carries it with ease, doing his own stunts and getting better every time I see him. The cast has genuine chemistry, and even if the characters never go much beyond the surface, a friendship built around those little cars was easy for me to relate to. I had the right amount of fun with it. Not more, not less.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

This is a cracking animation fantasy centring around "Jack Skellington" - the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town. When he feels all just a bit deflated after one celebration, he happens upon Christmas Town and encounters Santa Claus preparing to bring jolity and happiness. "Jack" sends a few of his rather stupid henchmen to kidnap Santa, takes his place and proceeds to deliver Christmas gifts that... well... are not exactly typical. Can Santa be rescued in time?? The animation is wonderfully detailed, dark and enjoyable with plenty of characters including a mad scientist as well as a mummy, the two-faced mayor and plenty of witches and demons. Not for the first time, Tim Burton shows a visionary imagination that I couldn't help but smile at - and coupled with a marvellous score (and lead vocal) from Danny Elfman we are presented with a thoroughly engaging Christmas story with a bit of a...

The Nightmare Before Christmas

I suppose I missed watching it at the proper time so I will explain it as not surviving well after all these years. The idea is daring, the stop motion is OKish and Danny Elfman's OST is quite good but even being only 70 min they were still too many for me. Specially, the songs were to close one to the next.

The Dog Stars

In a world where a flu virus has wiped out most of the human population, mechanic-cum-pilot "Hig" (Jacob Elordi) lives on a remote farm with his world-weary pal "Bangley" (Josh Brolin). He makes occassional sorties with his beloved dog "Jasper" into town (think "Omega Man" - 1971) for supplies and to reminisce at the home he shared with his late wife and unborn bairn but is spotted from the ground as he returns home one day and a violent tragedy ensues. That galvanises him to set off in his plane to find the town of Grand Rapids from where he has had intermittent radio contact over the years. It's at the extreme edge of his range, though, and so it's no great suprise when his aircraft blows a gasket and he finds himself crash-landed in a field. Luckily, that just happens to be adjacent to the home "Cima" (Margaret Qualley) shares with her curmudgeonly dad (Guy Pearce) who promptly gives...
